I'm Sherlyn. I was born in India and moved to Canada when I was six years old. I've lived most of my life in Brampton, Ontario, which is a city near Toronto. My father is from Jalandhar, Punjab and my mother from Utter Pradesh, India. In school I was always an A-student but never participated much in extracurricular activities until after the grade 12 year when I wanted to pursue modelling professionally over other careers due to my height being 5'10". I started modelling in 2008 at 19 years old in Toronto, Canada after doing a few photo shoots in India in the summer of 2007. The first few jobs I received were through my local dance instructors who saw me walking to lessons in high heels and asked if I would like to work with them. I took this opportunity very seriously because although I was only making peanuts at the time, it helped me build up my portfolio which is what you need when you are starting out. I then started to take more classes that involved learning the runway walk, people watching, posing for camera, etc. In the beginning I was working as a promotional model for different brands at different events. In those early years I was very insecure about my work and always thought that the next girl was better than me, but as I worked more and received more positive feedback from clients, I became confident in myself. I think a lot of women have an issue with being humble and so they don't know how good they really are, which is a shame! Modelling agencies have scouts who go around to colleges and university campuses looking for new models to sign with them. In Canada most agencies do not ask for any money up front which is why it has become such a popular career path since anyone can do it if they have the looks. I was contacted by a scout from a company called Iris Model Talent, and she invited me to their agency for a meeting. Although I liked how professional they were, I decided not to sign with them at that time as I had just moved back from India and having read online about the modelling scene there, I thought that it would be better for me to take my chances in Toronto rather than Mumbai. The following spring after the call from Toronto, I received another call from a different scout saying that she wanted to offer me a contract with an agency in Toronto named Elite Models. I was hesitant to sign with them due to what I had heard online about agencies asking for money up front, but after talking with the scout who offered me the contract, We came to an agreement that I would sign on to their agency for a few months and see how it went without paying any money. After this was settled, I signed with Elite Models in Toronto and that is when things started moving very quickly. The first couple of months out of the gate was terrifying because there were so many jobs coming at me from every direction. cfa1e77820
